The shipping company Cassen-Tours Cassen Eils & Frisia Touristik GmbH, a wholly owned subsidiary of AG Reederei Norden-Frisia, and the shipyard NG Shipyards in Lauwersoog, the Netherlands, signed the contract for the construction of a new express ferry on January 18, 2024.

The ship with a capacity of 54 passengers will operate mainly between Norddeich and Juist in the 2025 season under the name “Inselexpress 2”. The ship will also be used between Norddeich and Norderney.

“Our customers accept the existing express offer very well,” says Fred Meyer, managing director of Cassen-Tours, which already operates the Inselexpress 1 and the smaller express boats. With the new fast express ferry, the shipping company is meeting the demand of many island visitors. “The Inselexpress 2 is another building block in our concept of comprehensive island supply,” says Meyer

“The new ferry is optimized for trips in the Wadden Sea,” emphasizes Rolf Harms, also managing director of the shipping company. With a draft of only 70 centimeters, even a tide-dependent island like Juist is easily and more frequently accessible.

The well-established ship size of the “Inselxpress 1” is in great demand among islanders and guests and offers more comfort than the small water taxis. Cassen-Tours has secured additional ordering options for the future through options. “From a group perspective, we will expand our offer for guests even more in order to be able to make both express traffic and ferry traffic to Juist and Norderney even more flexible,” adds Frisia board member Carl-Ulfert Stegmann.
